Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services in Shropshire

The Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin clinical commissioning groups purchase transport services for patients from Medical Services, for patients registered with a GP in Shropshire Telford and Wrekin, enabling them to travel to and from routine healthcare appointments.

A Non-Emergency Patient Transport (NEPT) Service is provided for patients who have a medical condition which prevents them from using other forms of transport to travel to and from healthcare appointments. This service is totally separate from the emergency ambulance service and is not provided to people who simply require transport for social or financial reasons, or for those who are able to travel on public transport or by other means to get to their healthcare provider.

You could be entitled to use this service if you are registered with a GP in Shropshire or Telford and Wrekin, and have been referred for treatment to a hospital or another medical establishment. Patients booking this service by phone will be assessed on their eligibility using a short and simple series of questions to establish their fair access to the service.

Following this assessment and you are eligible for the NEPT service, transport will be arranged for you.

The NEPT service in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin is provided by Medical Services and we suggest ahead of your next appointment, please call 01743 762650 to find out if you are eligible.

If you are not eligible for the NEPT service, there are a number of other travel options for patients, which could include friends and family, or public and community transport.

If you live in Shropshire, for more information about local transport options please see the Shropshire Council website or call 0345 678 9000. You will be able to get more help and advice when you also call this number if you have difficulty in walking or seeing, as well as advice about bus passes and Blue Badges.

There are also local charities and voluntary organisations who might be able to help you with transport to and from your healthcare appointments. Some of these services are only available to certain groups of people living in certain areas. You can obtain more information about this by calling your local council on the numbers above or via their website.

If you are a patient and need help with the costs of travelling to hospital, you may be able to claim a refund under the Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme. For more information, please go to:
